During the time of the Renaissance, a rebirth of art and literature called for a development of many new themes and characteristics that inspired the works of this time.
INDIVDUALISMDuring the period of the Renaissance era, a development of the human individual grew as a shift away from society as a whole and group increased as well. Individualism embodied the ideas that man is conscious of his own worth and intelligence, therefore the achievements and success of man should be shown and applauded. This concept of individual can be reflected in the amount of self portraits that rose during this time period. A famous example of this is Donatello's David and da Vinci's Mona Lisa.

SECULARISMSecularism was a new concept that split many Europeans. By definition secularism is " is a belief system that rejects religion, or the belief that religion should not be part of the affairs of the state or part of public education" Secularism, for example, is the idea of keeping religion out of the public school system. During the Renaissance many people either were devoted in their religion or devoted in secularism. Botticelli's Birth of Venus was among the most important works of the early Renaissance and exemplifies the theme of secularism.

HUMANISMHumanism is the variety of beliefs, methods, and philosophies that place central emphasis on the human realm.Humanism placed emphasis on the word itself, " human". This theme meant a cultural movement that turned away from medieval scholasticism of the past and renewed the basic characteristics and themes in ancient Greek and Roman thought.
